Tuning on a 98 is fairly similar to everything else- My experience is with Hp tuners:
When scanning a running Vehicle a 98 has the worst pcm- you can only log 24bits of data at a time- ( meaning less sensors at a time ) It takes some getting used to but I can still tune a Twin turbo car on this pcm so its not impossible.
Other than that the only thing I can think of is never try to write any other type of tune to the pcm other than a 98-
Try and do some additional searching- and do realize that however similar it is to 99+ there are little differences- so keep in mind that you might see a write up that doesnt tell you about every option you have for tuning ur 98 -as well as writeups my have additional controls you wont have access to!
Ultimatly for my application I am rewiring the PCM to use a 2004 GTO pcm- its excessive - but gives me al the control I could ever ask for-

Hopefully this will help... credit goes to Chips By Al. It tells you where each wire is and needs to go. I cut each line into a strip and taped it on the wire as I pulled it out from the connector. After they are all out just read the strip and put it in the new spot. You will want to flash a new os to the pcm, do c.a.s.e. relearn, and swap fuel segments from an 02 express van to get your fuel gauge to work right. When I did this last year only efi live would let you do this part, anyone trying this with hp tuners would not be able to get their fuel gauge to read correctly. Maybe you can now I'm not sure.
