Default Weird Problem - Electrical I think

Here is what happens, Almost everytime I put the key in the car my Trip reads 0.00 miles , odometer reads 42,302 miles. I drive and i can watch my trip increase (so i know it works) as well as my odometer. I cut my car off and try to cut it on, 1 of 2 things will happen. Either
(A) when i put the key back to the on position (not crank it up) my trip will read 0.00 again, or
(B) when i put the key in the on position the trip will read what it left off at, but as soon as I crank it up it will take longer to roll over and when it finally rolls over it reads 0.00 again.

Any ideas, my tune is still there and I can update it . Weird problem. Maybe a ground somewhere? a loss connection? where should I check

Thanks

That is an odd-ball problem. I would guess grounding, partial short or gauge cluster fault.

Once I didn't land the ground on the back of my head properly and all hell broke loose on the gauge cluster.

Unless someone has experience with that exact problem I think this will be a tough one to find.

Car a '99?? Known problem on 99's when the battery starts to go out, could also be that the connections on the battery are not quite tight enough
