Question What is the AIR System on a LS1?

Ok Call me Dumb but what is the AIR System and what does it do? Emissions or something? I Had this removed off of my Camaro about as soon as I bought it so I never had an issue. But this is on my wifes 99 Trans Am and I want to leave it alone(Stock).I keep getting code P1416 Air Bank 2....Thanks

It is an electric air pump that injects air into the exhaust manifolds until warmed up to light off the cats for emissions. If you remove it and don't remove the code from the pcm then the mil light will go off

So throwing the code, does this mean it isn't working?I still have the system on the car.Maybe I will just turn this code off so I stop getting the SES light...
Thanks

You probably just need a new check valve for the passenger side exhaust manifold. It's the little bell shaped thing on top of the manifold with the tube attached to it.

I changed the Check Valve because I had one off my Camaro but when I pulled the old one off her car it was wet (Condensation) Is this Normal?
