hey silver, what exactly is hapening when you try and run atap, just to see if we have the same problem.

i loads, then conects to the vehicle, seems like it scans for avaliable perameters, then finialy gets to "input past end of file" error.

You guys should try one of those PCMCIA cards. If you get the 4 port you could plug in the wideband, EFILive or autotap, and Edit all at the same time. No more unplugging and replugging between logging and programming. Those cards are exspensive though and look fragile.

i have 3 usb's on my lap top, i paid something like $25 for a couple of those usb-serial converters, they work for the wideband and edit just fine. i just leave them on the cable. i dont think it is the converter any more.

i can't even remember what all i have been thru but it is something like this.

killed my old lap top

got another old laptop

couldn't get atap to work right(thru the serial port but the laptop had xp), they told me it might be the old atap cable so i upgraded, still didn't work, upgraded to latest atap software also.

got completely frustrated with the old lap top taking 5minutes just to turn on or load any program that i went out and got a new one. trying to use atap thru the usb now and it still wont work.

tried 2 other usb-serial converters, no luck

got a usb to serial converter right from atap, still dont work

got all the latest xp updates, still dont work

removed and reloaded atap software several times thruout the ordeal, still dont work

the computer can see the atap hard ware, i think the atap hardware can see the truck. the massage i see all the time is "input past end of file" it also spits out a couple of error codes that i have shared with atap but that is when they told me to get a new cable and then their converter.

right now i am using an ancient borowed laptop that i need to get back, i hope they have some ides on monday

you're really blaming the software. How hard is it for the coders to natively use usb? Many other obd-2 products have this already. USB is more flexible in baudrate, especially the 41200 baud than a conventional serial port.

Blame the software designers, not the usb itself.

i am not blameing anyone, just want it to work. does efi live or whatever that extra software they have use the original atap software at all, maybe that is a fix that would work for me. if they have no ideas i think i will ask them to let me try it before i buy it. if it works it sounds like it is prety cool.

Parish make sure you go to www.keyspan.com and get the latest drivers. The ones that came with my 4-port usb converter did not work with efilive. Also make sure you set the driver for normal speed and to use interrupts. If its high speed then it could cause issues. I can log with all four ports at the same time with no issue. Make sure you have the usb ports set up properly. I would recommend disabling modem or IR ports, although all mine are turned on. I run winxp on a p4 toshiba with 512 mb of ram.

FINIALY!!

took me over a month to get the crap to work. i called atap the first day with my problem. i get errors when atap tries to start loging. they first told me to upgrade to the newer version of atap hardware, i did this at a cost of $99. didn't help, then told me i should try their usb to serial converter so i ordered that at a cost of something like $80. still dont work. in the mean time i am trying all sorts of other stuff like diferent converters and updated drivers.

finialy here is the problem, when i upgraded to the latest software i followed these instructions.

"Issue: You’ve updated your software from version 2.03 to version 2.04. Now you are getting an error on startup or other things are not working correctly.
Resolution: Delete the file AutoTapV2.ATD. This will remove any instance to V2.03 and should allow the software to work properly. After deleting this file you will have to re-register the software. "

i went thru that process more than once, it seems that you have to empty the recyle bin also.

thats all i had to do was follow those instructions above AND empty my recycle bin. not real happy it took 20 phone calls, a month and a couple hundred more bucks to get it working but at least it works now.

I went thru the same crap with an Hewlett Packard computer I bought. Pentium, 1.8G with a DVD, CD, CD/R burner. No floppy drive, had to buy a USB floppy drive and to make the thing work with LS1 Edit and the Motec systems we program, I had to get a PCMCIA to Serial card. Motec says it's the most reliable way they've found to have as large or a pipeline to the motherboard. I bought a socket 3 from Frys and it seems to work flawlessly.
