Default HPT serial upgrade + EIO question...

I posted this on HPT's forum too but thought I might see what folks here know as well...

I am upgrading my serial HPTuners hardware to the USB/MPVI hardware.

I found this helpful post :
http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14424

and this helpful image :

It looks like the interface plug is not the same on the USB/MPVI gadget as it is on the serial hardware and I will need to do some rewiring ?

Also, if I have the serial EIO and paid for the serial upgrade, the USB/MPVI hardware will also have EIO capability, right ?

Anyone else done this swap, and what's involved ?

Thanks,
Rob (Bad30th)

Yeah, that's why I'm asking and doing the upgrade now. After the end of September you can't upgrade the serial units anymore.

I don't think they are going to stop doing the upgrades. After September they are going to stop support of the serial interface, meaning you can't buy any new licenses.

No, after september you will no longer be able to upgrade your interface either.

Thanks guys, sounds like I'm all set.

I'm sending my serial interface off to HPT today...

The amount of work to support 4 pieces of hardware & 2 separate software builds is just too much and hinders developement for our current & future customers. Simply put it was something that we needed to do.

Got it today and had it hooked back up to my LC1 in like 5 minutes. The inputs (#1 and #5) were the same for the serial EIO connector - just spliced them into the new MPVI plug and everything came right up easy as pie.

Now I get to play with the standalone data logging that my serial EIO interface didn't have !!

Cheers HPT !!

I just got the HPT PRO so I'm new to all this. Are you talking about the ability to hook the MPVI unit up without a laptop and still record data from the car and later hook it up to the computer and replay it?

Yep, that's just one of many benefits of the new interface over my old serial interface.

I'm a happy camper, HPT rocks.
