Open header tuning I have a 97 lt1. It has a custom tune. I always drive it around through the closed exhaust. I decided to put 2 3 inch cut outs off the long tube headers to go to the track. I drove it around with the cut outs open and the car didnt seem as responsive. It seemed kinda slugish. Does the computer have to relearn this set up? If so how long does it take? I only want to use these at the track and not for any street use. The car has cam gear mildly ported heads and converter. I was told by many people to put these on because the flowmaster sucks for these cars and it will really restrict it.

If your motor runs in closed loop, the O2 sensors are probably getting too much exposure to fresh air and it's whacking out your calibration. A potential solution would be to run some long (20" or so) extensions after the header collector. This may help keep a lot of fresh air from contaminating your O2 reading. It still won't be as good as a closed system, but it should help.
