Default PCM Swap, Hp Tuners?

I did the 98-02 pcm conversion on my 98. I was wondering..


Would I have any issues with my tuner using HP tuners, then after his tune going in with my EFI live and adding in the fuel segment swap?


I can't imagine any issues.. Maybe im wrong though.

Kris, that should not be a problem. To make it easier on yourself, have him use a 2002 OS/Cal with HPT.

The issue I see is that I have never tuned an F-series blower without a 2 or 3 bar OS... The link in your sig says a 700rwhp target. I certainly would NOT tune that on a MAF, it would be all 2 or 3 bar. Those OS's are not compatible with EFIL. I would suggest getting it up and going with an 02 OS as Doc suggested, then do the EFIL fuel seg swap, and THEN have the car tuned with HPTuners, if that is what you are trying to do. I see your sig says EFILive tuned by you. Again, if you get someone to do it in HPT, you won't be able to work with it on your different platform.

The tune will be A 2 bar SD tune.

Frost, Im not so much looking to tune myself. Im only looking to do the fuel segment swap for my guage and possibly data log after A professional tuner fine combs the tune.

Are you guys saying I shouldn't have issues with what im trying to do ^^

I'm saying you CAN'T do a 2bar tune in HPT and THEN swap the fuel segments with EFIL.

You need have the segment swapped in your OEM file FIRST and THEN have the HPTuner's OS applied to your file if you want it to work that way. I don't know why you'd do that though, you won't be able to work with your own PCM with EFIL if it has an HPT custom OS on it.

The only EFI live tuner that has a decent reputation in SoCal is Kushan. He wants to start his tune @$1200


Im set on taking it out to Ryne @ CMS, Sadly he only uses HP tuners

I have no desire to tune my car myself any more.

Once he tunes it, the only thing your EFILive will be good for is scanning, just to be clear...

Be aware that the HPT COS will not be fully compatible for scanning with any other scanners including EFI LIVE. For some reason the SAE PID for MAP for example does not scale properly with the HPT OS as they must screw with the output. How that is even legal to alter an SAE PID I don't know, but that's what they have done.

This screen shot is from a Blown LS1 running up to 8psi with a HPT 2bar COS and scanned with EFI LIVE.
Have a look at the Max MAP for the log. It only goes up to 105kpa which is only 1 bar Had me scratching my head for a bit till I did some research and found out HPT screws scaling. Very bad form IMO.

Moral of the story is I would stick to a tuner than uses EFI LIVE if that is what you use and want to log.

I have acess to HP tuners aswell.. I just wasn't sure how A HPT COS would effect me if I wanted to use my EFI Live..

Either way the SAE PID data on a 2 bar OS becomes invalid. The EFI LIVE way where the data remains accurate would be preferred for guys who want to scan OBDII data to gauges, dyno's and the like. Another plus to EFI LIVE.

IMO if the tuner was any good it wouldnt matter what software he is using. See if he will tune the car using your cable & Efilive.

Are the COS functions that Similar between the two products?

There would be small differences. Either way the tuning methodology would be the same.
Plus using your efilive cable would prevent you from having to pay extra for a hptuners COS.

One other thing to note... your '98 pcm does not take up a licence from efi live. Once you change it to an '02 OS it will take up a license.
