clearing SES with car on?

clearing SES with car on? i have a scanner that i use pretty much every other day. when i clear my codes (always the o2 sensors), i shut the car off, plug in the scanner, wait for it to load, then turn the keys to the run position and start the scanner and clear the codes.
i thought "man this would be easier if i could do it while driving as soon as the light comes on". is this bad to do?
i tried searching the stickies but nothing came up about this.

i may be wrong, but I believe the car must be off such that you can communicate fully with it to clear codes.
you can program them out (have someone or you buy the software & tune them out)...depending on what 02s you are talking about (Front or rears?)
I will check with efi live if I can reset the codes & etc with the car on...I honestly can't remember, but I have always done it with the car off.

i'm just going off what i read once on here. someone mentioned it was possible. if i try it, and i'm successful, do you think it "would" be bad for the car?
i clear them with the car running.
with hptuners, right in the scanner it has a button to "clear DTC's" and i've used it several times (i had clogged mac cats and wanted to see how long it took before the error reported while the car was running) without ever having a problem.
