Detonation at High RPM
Everyone:
My symptom is I have audible detonation from 5000 RPM to redline. It is hurting my top end. It has done this since I owned the car. It is a 2000 Camaro SS with 6-speed. It is stock except a K&N filter. If I add a can of 104 Octane boost, it mostly goes away.
Where should I begin?
Thanks!

To start, you need to use a data recorder like autotap to validate what you are hearing - and afterwards to verify that you've cured the car since not all detonation can be heard.

i had the SAME EXACT problem on my 00 WS6. i took off my egr valve, put in new plugs and wires and a 160 deg tstat, and well got it tuned right and it is perfect now. its a PITA but 2000 seems to be the trouble year, i think they ran the car a little leaner then...

I had the same on mine when it was mostly stock.
My problem stemmed from the PCV system sucking in GOBs of oil and causing carbon buildup in the cylinders.
Some top end cleaner band-aided this problem from oil change to oil change, but my basic problem was oil ingestion via the PCV.
