ok so i took my car to get dyno tuned, and they must have flashed a diffrent vin to my pcm, cuz now i cant do **** on it! i cant even flash it back to the vin i have a licence for. i thought the licence was linked to the serial # on the pcm not the vin. wtf! anyone got any ideas to fix this? besides take it back to the shop that did it.
That'll do it, the vin/os pair MUST be to GM's spec http://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web otherwise it breaks our year/model licensing. If the vin is from a 2001 Fbody & the os is from a 99 our software doesn't know how to classify it & will reject it as an invalid vin/os pair error.
efilive doesn't offer year/model licenses, its either all or nothing with them so to speak ie single vcm or tunershop, because we have the year/model licenses which fill the gap between the vin/os MUST be valid, no way around it.

Its a shame sometimes when certain things get posted. But I think a thank you should go out to Bill and William and alot of the other guys working behind the scenes at Hpt Tuners, when they get punched in the eye for something they are still so professional, we would be no where with out these guys bending over to help up so great job guys I know its tough

Because EFI LIVE went for a more simpler, secure, straight forward licensing scheme. The HPT format is flawed when there are other tools out there like EFI LIVE or even Tech II that can change VIN/OS combos thus giving you the ability to tune multiple controllers using the same credits. Been there done that.
Yep.

The same is true for EFILive, and you don't even need expensive tools like HPT or a TechII... I did it with free warez to see if I could.
I'm with Bill and can't understand why you would go from a 2001 OS to a 99 since 99 and 2000 can run the newer and better 01-02 OS, but I've never heard of going backwards. Sounds like they took a shortcut and flashed in another cars tune, which happened to be a 99, that may have had similar mods to yours which would cut down on their time, hence yeilding more profit.
They all have their advantages and disadvantages. Personlly I think TunerCat has the best license scheme, but doesn't offer all the features or vehicles of HP or EFI. That being said, from somebody who has used all of them, back to the OP's issue. I'm with Bill and everybody else, that questions putting the 99 OS in the 2001 PCM, its only looking to cause problems, been there, had problems. Get the guy to flash it back and find somebody else to do your work.
