Default Engine on and wideband off, can it damage sensor?

So I installed a boost, fuel pressure and wideband o2 gauges and thought it would be nice to turn off all 3 gauges if i wanted while driving in certain times (avoid attention and so on) a friend of mine told me that the switch was pointless and that with the engine running the air/fuel gauge has to be on or the sensor will be ruined. Is this true? I tend to have the gauges on most of the time but dont want to risk damaging my o2 gauge if i decide to turn the gauges off

If you are just killing the gauge display, but the wideband controller is running, you'll be okay. But, do not turn the controller off. You need to keep the wideband sensor itself powered up whenever the engine is running so the sensor is heated, in order to keep it from fouling.

Yea...always make sure the sensor itself has power....
