hypertech junk
Hi i just changed the rear end rear gears from to 2.73 to 3.73 i went you use hypertech power programmer 3 on it to ajust the speedo it didn't finish programming and shut off i'm not sure at what percent last time i looked it was at 60% i went to turn it back on and said file corrupt and then i rest it and kept coming up and saying not initializing. anyway i tried starting the car. starts fine and it did fix the speedo i'm just wondering if it f**d anything up in the car. and yes i know hypertech is junk but i bought it off ebay used a few years ago and worked fine till now. oh car is 1995 trans am any help would be appreciated thanks.
The HPP III isn't junk but it is limited. Customer support for the second hand buyer was terrible for me. He would answer a few questions about the product but offered no other help. Unlike you, I didn't have a catastrophic failure report from the programmer and in the years I owned it - worked without a hitch. I felt the few changes made for power tuning were beneficial. I attested to it by the tire marks as the A4 shifted into 2nd.
Here's my advice if you want it: If you tell customer support that it appears the HPP III has corrupted your PCM, they may offer some help. Let's hope so anyway since they were/are a sponsor here. Your best course of action at this point is to post the results of your contact with CS. If you get no help, let us all know and then go searching here on LS1TECH for someone who can mail order repair your PCM.

thanks o1z28m6 the car seems to run alright and it did fix the speedo maybe i should just get a mail order tune just to make sure. I don't really have many mods tho just transgo shift kit, k@n cold air, borla catback,160 thermo and the 3.73 gears theres only about 45000 miles on the car. would a mail order tune be worth it
Well your mods still keep you in the state where even the hypertech can do some good with the tune although you will get plenty of arguments for that. However, your first priority has to be to get your PCM back in working order for tuning. If hypertech CS won't help then you almost have to get a tuner to either repair or replace your computer.
A tune for the LT1 is a good idea in my humble opinion because they tend to be tuned from the factory in rich form. Besides, where you are now, other than headers you are going to start spending quite a bit for each horsepower you gain. A $125 power tune will now be your least expensive improvement; even if you only get 10 or 15 hp.
BTW, i made a mistake by calling your programmer a HPP III. It is probably the HPP II or HPP + (like I had). What is the model # on the back label?
