Default Need some help on OBD II error code

Well this doesn't have anything to do with the TA but just wondering if anyone might be able to help me out on this. Got a 94 Olds 88 and the check engine light is on. Tried to get it looked at but the computer won't put any codes out and the scanner read "error" at the mechanics. Is the computer bad/going bad, loose connection, or blown fuse?? Just wondering if anyone has come across this and might be able to help me out??? Thanks!!

I thought the 16 pin was OBD-II.....so even though it's that, it needs read with an OBD I scanner?? The place I took it to only got it to read error and said the computer wasn't sending anything back...doesn't make sense.

There was a 16 pin OBD-I just before GM changed to OBD-II.
