I think the best situation is to have it custom dyno-tuned, and use the hand-held to modify params and read codes. So you want one that will let you download the dyno-tune as the stock tune, and let you modify it, even if it's just for gears or shift points.
If you plan getting serious with your setup (like FI) look into HPtuners and a good wideband! Even then make sure you know what your doing, as alot of people buy software and end up paying someone else to do it for them in the end anyway!
