Default cam only timing

Shouldn't I be able to run 24-27* timing at WOT on my wife's bolt on, cam only C5? The last tuner (bolt on only) set max timing at 21-22, and I would think the larger cam would bleed off some cylinder pressure, allowing more timing. (Also heard these engines like more)
She has stock heads (10-1) and the cam is 226-234.

My buddy borrowed my tuner, and I won't be able to scan until later this week, but just doing some pre-planning

Cool; I thought 22 seemed a little low
He said he was getting some KR (before cam) and couldn't seem to get it to go away. The PE delay was a little high, so maybe it was getting KR when he went WOT because it temporary went lean

Yep, 26 or 27 if the AFR is right... maybe it was knockin cause the cylinders were carboned up - seen that plenty of times...

Wondered about that since it has quite a few miles on it
what are guys doing to clean them now? Used to use the old cold water down the carb while idling, trick, but not very common now

Now its the suck a glass of water out of a straw with the brake booster vacuum line trick... LOL! I have the engine rev'd to about 3k and use a straw so you don't overdo it...

Interesting, but if it works.
I would like to make sure I'm not getting spark knock from carbon buildup.

I've tuned hundreds of these cars, and seen it several times where the fueling is right and the car knocks with low timing (audible even)... give it a drink, and all is well... usually carboned up due to the lousy PCV system sucking oil into the engine for miles and miles.

TSP 231/237, stock heads, 31* timing
Every engine will be a little different, but should be in the upper 20's at least.

wow- 31* is some major timing.

If I can get it in the upper 20's, it should pick up some good hp from 21-22!!

I've got to make sure any carbon buildup is removed, and get my tuning software back and see what I can do.

My car was dyno tuned by someone other than me and was at 29*. I took it to the track to dial it in and gained 1.5 mph with additional timing/fueling.

Were you logging it to see if it was actually seeing 31* going down the track?
