obd1 vs obd2
im told obd1 comps on the lt1 fbodies cannot be programed (93-95) and the obd2 lt1's (96-97) can be. then im told the 93 requires to be chipped and the 94-97 can be programed. my question is what is the best computer i should get for my 94 lt1 motor (from a police caprice) that i am swapping into my 94 camaro that originally had a v6. do all lt1 computers come equipted with vats? lets not forget this pain in the *** will be getting in the way too.

93 is chip based and can be tuned with a few different programs (TunerCAT, TunerPro)
94-95 is OBDI Flash based and can be tuned also using a usb/aldl cable with TunerCAT
96-97 is OBDII Flash based and can be tuned also using a usb/aldl cable with TunerCAT OBDII, JetDST etc.
If you have a 94-97 Fbody then you can actually switch the OBDI PCM's for OBDII or vice versa. The only difference between the two is the OBDII looks for a cranks sensor setup and uses a different knock sensor. I've tuned alot of newer 96-97 LT1's that have reverted back to the OBDI PCM and install the OBDI year knock sensor.
