Got CEL after A/F Gauge install....Help

I installed a Autometer A/F gauge and two days later I got a CEL on the same side bank that the o2 was tapped into. Does this make sense to anyone? I have discontented the gauge and battery but the light stayed on. If any one can help me out with this I would appreciate it, I am new to fuel injection.

Leaving the sensor in the pipe w/o power to it will ruin it.
How did you make the install? Weld on a bung? Where did you put it, if that's the case?

It's not a wideband. It's a lights show. It's a visual 0-1VDC gauge (basically) that taps into narrowband wiring.
