Default Does GM have a proprietary scan tool?

Check engine light popped on today on my LS1 swapped Porsche 944.

I fired up VAG-COM, which is a Porsche/VW/Audi scan tool I have, but it includes a generic OBD2 scanner as well.

When I connected it to the car and picked the generic scan tool, it still didn't work.

Is there a special tool needed to scan this motor? I'm going to head over to the neighborhood auto parts store tomorrow morning to see if they can scan it...

Yup, it's called a Tech 2. it's pretty much dealership only though. although, if the OBD2 is wired up right, autozone should be able to read it.

It should be wired up right. Brought over the entire LS1 engine wiring harness, PCM, etc.

I'll see if the auto parts store can read the codes. If not I may have to hit up a friend who's a service writer at a local Chevy dealer.

local auto parts store should be able to read it with a Actron or whatever they have.

Make sure you have 12 volts at DLC pin 16 on the OBD2 connector or it wont power up the scanner.
