Unhappy IAC counts?

What is an IAC count and what is good vs. bad? What should I be looking for?

I have a DTC code P0506 (idle low). Took the car to get looked at and the IAC sensor works fine (according to tech.) My idle at a cold start is around 400 RPMs and after it warms up around 700 RPMS. TB is clean, sensor works, no vacumm leaks (to the best of my knowldge). My baby is sick and I don't know how to fix her....Please help.

IAC= Idle Air Control. The IAC motor is a solonoid that bypasses air around the closed butterfly in the throttle body. The PCM sends signals to the IAC referred to as counts. The higher the counts, the more the IAC is pulsed and the more air is sent around the closed throttle which makes the idle speed go up. The PCM continually adjusts the counts up or down attempting to have the engine idle at the speed it is programmed for. This is why you can't raise the idle speed by cracking the butterfly open more like on a carb because the IAC will compensate for the extra air.

Whats a good count? Is there a number that means from this range to this range is good? My car will not idle well and dude from fast chips asked me what my IAC count was > I just want to answer him back with a quality answer.

Thanks for any help.

they are always changing. on a warm engine at idle with the AC off, it should be around 30-50. with AC on, around 70-90. usually you will not have a problem with it unless you installed a cam.
