Question Painless wire harness

I just purchased a painless wire harness for a 97-98 camaro. It says i need a 98 camaro ecu. Could I use an ecu from a 2000 camaro? Or can I only use a 98 camaro ecu?

The 98 PCM pin placement is different from the 99+. If you want to use a 99+ PCM you can repin your new wiring harness to work with the newer PCM. If you just bought the harness, stick with the 98 PCM or return it and buy a 99+ harness and PCM would be my advice.

I bought the harness for an amazing price off of someone brand new. So returning it isn't really an option. And I've been looking for 98 ecu's but they seem to be very hard to find. I was hoping the 99+ would work but no. Have to look into repinning, but prob not worth it. I'll just keep my eyes open for a 98.

Thanks

The newer pcm's are certainly nicer for tuning. When I make the leap to a new harness I will certainly get one for the newer pcm's. In the meantime, I am keeping my 98, but I keep a spare 98 on the shelf. They are harder to find and easier to fry while tuning. The 98 obviously does work for almost everyone.
