adjust timing down low?

adjust timing down low? I have a 5.3 with 216/220 comp cam that doesn't idle well,and feels flat under 4000. I can't find a distributor to turn,but it sure feels to me like it needs a little advance till 3500 or so. A hundred shot would wake it but I need consistancy.
I tried to adjust idle with edit,but my best result was stock.
I have a throttlebody spacer that affected throttle response and decel before,so it probably does now.It got me .2 and 2mph so I hate to take it off,but cam seems to make a lot more,so I might...
On the Ignition file of edit what functions control timing?
Are there any publications that explain edit ?
I know Edit is a proper noun but I already spent that capital $$
