Default Does the ECU need oil pressure or water temp?

I've got a question about what the ECU "needs" to see.

I have a carbed 383 LS1 in my boat, and am considering going back to EFI. I currently have a temp and oil sending unit for gauges in place of the stock stuff. Does the ECU need to see those two things?
