Default Is the exact ECM needed to avoid Tech2 Reflash cost?

Looking to purchase an E40 ECM and TCM for same app. in a stand alone engine swap/conversion. I see that there are many vehicles that use E40 ECM. Can I use any E40 ECM coupled with TCM and flash with either HPT or EFIlive to any E40 calibration file I need? Or should I make certain that the ECM and TCM I purchase is out of the same application for my engine trans combo?

Reason I ask is because of the statement I found in a thread that I copied below and would like to avoid, if there is any validity to this, additional costs of tech2 reflash and just buy the ECM TCM for the application I need.

Thanks.

Another example is the 2008 Corvette E38 ECM we purchased from a wrecked 2008 Impala. We had the local GM service department do a Tech2 flash with a 2008 Corvette calibration to turn it into a 2008 Corvette ECM. We now use this ECM (with EFILive) for prototyping our 58x systems.

Do you already have a PCM licensed in either EFIlive, or HPT? I can supply you with a PCM and TCM combo for your needs. If you already have one licensed, I can probably set it up so you don;t have to license it again.

I need more details. You can email me @ edcmat-l1@msn.com. It's easier for me to respond to emails than log in here and check PMs.

To clarify Im looking at Junkyard E40 ECMs. If I buy HPT or EFIlive do I still need a ride on the tech2 if the E40 is from a Monte Carlo but needs a GTO calibration file?

Or will either tuning suite alone do the trick?

Thanks

You can program the E40 and T42 with any OS used in the same controllers. I got a spare E40 from a TrailBlazer and a T42 from a Cobalt in the local u-pull-it. Using a bench harness, I flashed both with HPT using a BIN from an '06 GTO w/automatic trans I got from the HPT website. I did not need a Tech2. They work just fine in my GTO when I swapped the T56 for a 4L65e.

Since you are going to run them stand-alone, you will need to disable VATS.

That's interesting edcmat-l1 You are able to set the VCM ID in the VCM?
