Default PCM vs. Alternator

thought a i had a bad alternator but the wire from the pcm was burned off at the alternator . Dont why. So I repaired the wire and my tach stopped workin.I hooked my code reader up and it could not see my computer. So I cut the wire at the repair and tach works and code reader see my computer.

Any thoughts on this ? I coud not find more damage on the wire.Maybe a bad PCM? How do I test it?

Car does not charge with the wire disconnected

Also if I get a PCM out of a junk yard , how do you get it to work with my vin.?

Alot questions any help would be greatly appreciated

.....Shawn

You have to reprogram the VIN in the computer with a program like HPTuners. Otherwise, I put a resistor on a 12v+ IGN wire and knock the voltage down to 5 or 6v and run that straight into the alt to "turn it on" and be done.

Without knowing more I would say that something is wrong inside your alternator, - the part that handles the PCM control over the voltage regulator.
I could not tell you more though because I don't mess with these types of newer alternator designs.

Was it really burned? If it's getting really hot that cable might not work anymore. Having high resistance on that wire will cause it to go hotter then normal. Pm me if u have questions.

burned in half right at the alternator not even touching block or pipes. I already replaced the alternator with a new one
