It's been talked about a good bit on here if you want to search but basically you have to repin the two connectors that gO in to the computer. Not hard just a little time consuming. Then have a custom operating system flashed to the new computer so your fuel gauge works right. Then tune to your needs. Frost can do it for you if you just want to do the harness. Unless you live near him that would only be a mail order tune but still much better than any handheld.

Your best bet with a 98 is to get a mail order tune, or take it to a shop and get a personal tune with a good tuner. There is no hand held tuner worth it for the 97-98 LS1s. If i recall hypertech made one a long time ago and it was a flop. These days a good tuner can get a mild H/C/I car almost perfect with a mail order tune.

I've got a hypertec for a 98 SS. I used it before I upgraded the motor. If you are interested, let me know.

I say get the tuning software.its time consuming to learn but well worth it in the end. One thing though if you have to go thru emissions youll want efi live due to the vin situation.I personally dont find the 98 pcm to be a pain but you are limited to a 2 bar and you can fry the pcm if you load the tune wrong. I do wish we had rtt for 98s tho.
