descreening a maf?

descreening a maf? I have heard a lot abt descreening the maf so there's less restrictions for the air but others say that with the screen the maf can graph the air better and there's less turbulanxe so idk if I should descreen my maf or not
I guess I'll chime in. The main reason I did not descreen was I believe the screen is also a trap to catch anything thing that should go into the intake. I found a small piece of plastic in the screen, and I have no I idea where it came from. Might not happen ever happen again, but for me it's not worth the power gain. How much hp will you pick up by descreening?
The screen is there to smooth the air flow better reading. As a matter of fact I used to work on Jaguars and they wanted the pleats of the air filter installed one way when it was a square filter for that reason.
There is no need to descreen a MAF - if the MAF is a restriction because you have big cubes, get a bigger MAF - if it is still a restriction, go speed density and no MAF... there is no advantage to descreening a MAF on a bolton or heads/cam car - only headaches...
and just for reference, I knew a brainiac once who took out his airfilter and descreened his MAF because he thought the car would go faster at the track - the car didn't go any faster; however, he did manage to get a bolt in there and put it through the engine... needless to say, it wasn't worth the trashed cylinder head and piston...
