Default H/C LS1.....how much timing?

My buddy has a 99 TA track only car. It's a stock bottom end, prc 2.5 5.3 heads with cam and ls6 intake. The car has a msd 6010 box on it. Right now all the curves have 36 degrees of timing which I think is too much. I think the curve pills that come with the box are geared more toward Carb cars.

I can set it to whatever I wish with the msd box, how much should I try?

Depends on the compression, bu I would start around 27-28 degrees. If it's lower compression, you can run more, but about 28 is the norm for them.

my car has its max timing at wot set at 25 or 26,anything more was useless.Really depends on the combustion chamber efficiency. With the 243 heads or aftermarket heads and high compression,24 would be good.36 is really high, and unless you log the KR,your shooting in the dark

With stock casting heads I wouldn't go much higher that 27*

Around 28-30 for peak power is my guess, but really depends on the setup. If it pings, dial it back a few deg.

36 deg is what you'll find in a lot of tuned SBC setups so I'm guessing that's where its coming from.
