Default 99 C5 shift point adjustment, need some advice

Hi Everyone,

Somewhere between my gear change and tune(LS1 edit,150 shot) my 1-2 shift point left a little to be desired.

The car shifts early(5500-5600 RPM, full throttle) and is also harder than I would like it to be when coasting around a parking lot going into 2nd. I know this is nothing mechanical related, as this issue is the exact same before and after I had the transmission rebuilt. I planned on racing the car more, but never got around to it.

Anyways, I contacted a tuner in the Detroit area for a shift point adjustment. The tuner only wants to do an entire retune for $750.

So now I am contemplating one of two options and was hoping for some feedback.

1. Take it to the dealer? I am worried they might flash over the tune. Anyone have experience with this?

2. Hand held tuner? Is this going to affect the current tune at all?

Appreciate any feedback!

Stay away from the dealer they will over write it to stock.

Why not mail order tune it?

Thanks for the reply. I am not interested in tearing out the pcm and shipping it. I am also a big fan of the real world data, aka I want them to test drive the car and tune.

I think I am looking at the handheld tuner option, any experience with this on a car that has LS1 edit?

Don't go to a GM dealer, they will only flash it to the stock tune and that's the last thing you want right now with an 150 shot. And that's also not going to fix your problem.

Don't bother with a handheld, you won't be able to make the necessary adjustments.

You really have 2 options here:

1) take it to a real tuner that will be able to fix the issue but not for $750

2) get efi live or hptuners and learn how to fix the car yourself

Go with option number two from above. I went to two "tuners" in the Detroit area and I'm still not happy,
plus I'm out over 1400 hard earned dollars. I'm going with HPTUNERS.
