Default Diablo handheld question

2002 z28. I was going to get tuned with hp tuners then use my diablo to pull timing for spray. I restored the car to the factory settings. The car was tuned. Had some issues tuning so the car went back to the engine builder. Mean time he had plugged the diable in too read codes.

My question is, if the handheld is empty and you plug it in, does it automatically grab the tune from the cars computer or do you have to select that option?

If it does automatically download that tune I don't think the car was returned to stock tune again (essentially clearing the handheld of any tunes) before it was retuned.

I want to just plug it in to simply read codes, but I'm afraid it may mess up my current tune or try to load another.

Should I plug it in?

I will work like any other OBDII reader, plug it in.

You have to go out of your way to write anything to your pcm.

Right, it wont save the tune until you go in and pick a new tune to load to the vehicle, and it will say 'your original backup will now be saved' once it does so....

Thanks
