Default 4.8 vs 5.3 computer?

Hi there hoping I'm not asking this question for the 10th time but i need to put a motor in the wife's Tahoe and was researching the two that i can get the 4.8 cheaper and they will have a better MPG... The only worries i have is the computer. when running the 4.8 block will the computer will compensate for the slightly smaller motor? or will i need to do a custom tune. I can buy the 4.8 computer but will need to pay for the VAT delete. just trying to save a buck on the family car. thanks

I would suggest running the 5.3L, I have heard from guys that drive pickups with the 4.8L and they get same MPG as an 5.3L and most of the time less. Not sure what year you are looking at but if you look at Chevy's website you will see they still have a lower MPG then the 5.3L.

A 5.3L has more power and torque than a 4.8L. I know 2 guys who have both and say the 5.3L gives a little more MPG with more power for heavy loads.

For the Tahoe stick to the 5.3 or 6L

It is to heavy and the gas mileage will drop from the 4.8.. It is just to heavy.....

Torque helps a lot on that thing...

As for computer setup, the computer you have now can be tuned to work perfect for what ever your engine selection is.

On ebay, there are always 5.3 and 6L engines for sale for cheap.
