Default alternator question

for some reason my search bar isn't working so that's why im asking. I have a 2001 5.3 looking to convert the alternator to single wire. I see some people say take the b wire and put a 470ohm resistor in between it and 12positive and then the other wires aren't needed? am I on the right track

thanks in advance

Is there any specific reason why you want to switch to a one wire? It sounds like you want to run the 10 ga red to the stud and only one wire to the plug. IIRC I used a 2000 Silverado alternator on my swap and ran a resistor on the brown field wire on the plug to a keyed 12 volt source. Hope this helps, Eric L

Yes that is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. I'm not using any factory harness and the Holley hp efi doesn't have an alternator plug.

Also I'll be running the brown wire with the resistor off the battery pole from the alternator cause this is more of a race car than street car and I have the battery on a switch.
