Default Speed input from Toyota VSS

Just wondering if it was possible to use the VSS input from my Toyota dash as a signal for the 2001 LS1 pcm in my 4Runner with a few tweaks to the figures? It outputs a 4 pulse signal from a magnetic reluctor which bridges 2 contacts. The signal goes to ground though. Would this be suitable for the pcm or does it need to be positive voltage?

my toyota supra uses a 4000 ppm signal to calculate VSS just like the 4l60e and 80e, i literally spliced the signal wire from the 80e signal to the dash and it reads considering the standalone or pcm knows your rear end gearing to adjust otherwise. I dont know why it wouldn't work the other way around from your dash to your pcm.

I've done a bit more research and was wondering if you could just remove the earth pin off the sensor in the cluster run the VSS low and VSS high wires to the pins. In theory it should generate a signal like the gm sensor. The old V6 ecu only ran a single wire from the dash. I presume the pcm just wants to see a signal between the 2 wires.
Only thing I'm still trying to find out is whether the Toyota sensor puts out a sine or square wave signal

It uses a square wave signal i remember probing the signal.

The Vss gives an AC sine-wave signal, the PCM and clusters output a square-wave signal, it does work sometimes but not always

I have tuned a ls swapped 4 runner and they had the factory dash working. They used a custom made converter box for the speedometer to work correctly. I dont know if there is more than one way to do it or not, thats just how that one was done.

My speedo is cable driven so there is no problems there.

I've pulled the vss out of a spare cluster I have and it turns out to be a reed switch type. Its 4ppr and simply bridges the small contacts between the lugs and If I was to hook up vss low and vss high to this would it get the signal I require for the pcm? Or does it need to be a reluctor type sensor?
