VATS disable, car won't start
I drove my car home from work one morning at 7am and after puttering around at home I went to bed.
Tried starting the car to head downtown at 2pm and it wouldn't crank.
I've disabled VATS using HPT, verified that its disabled three times and even tried using a series of relays that match the range of my key's ohm reading.
Security light is flashing constantly and all I get is a single relay click when I try to crank.
I'm totally at a loss as why it would start and run like a top, but several hours later its dead in my driveway.
Battery was new this spring, 800 CCA and was still showing a decent charge on the gauge.
If it was dead or going dead, it normally would make a rapid clicking noise anyways.
In a minute I'm going to swap the starter relay with another, but I doubt that's going to solve anything.
Car is a 2002 TA, a4, all stock.
Stock harness, stock PCM (setup for HP standard ERG wideband), ect.

Disabling VATS in the PCM only kills the fuel shut off part of VATS. The starter enable is a function of the key pellet the lock cylinder and the body control module all working. You can read the resistor value in the key and try connecting that value resistor across the wires running down the steering column. Here is a good description of the operation and how to disable it.
