Default 408 stroker with 30 deg. timing is it to much?

Just got my car tuned it's a 408 stroker eagle rods and crank diamond pistons 11.5:1 ls3 top end fast intake 240 252 .629 113+2 made 520whp with 30 degrees of timing is this safe or do I need to back it off some. My buddy tuned it and he has tuned hundreds of cars I don't believe he would do something that was unsafe. He said it never picked up any knock until after 30* but I'm no tuner. What's your opinions?

Every car is different no matter what the build is. Has it been on a dyno as well?

Yea it was tuned on a dyno. A/F was around 12.0-12.4 wot. I talked to James short and he said most ls3 stuff usually doesn't like much more than 25*

Gotcha. The thing is, you can take two cars with practically the same mods, same motor, etc...and one will take more timing than the other. There's a lot more to it than there might seem. I'm not saying your tuner is completely right but it is very possible

Was it a load bearing dyno or inertia? 30deg seems high to me also but every setup is a little different. Just because it didn't knock at 30 deg though doesn't mean thats the timing it wants.

I'd back that up a few. ESP if it doesn't lose any power doing so.

Also remember that there is likely a timing curve. It prob has less timing at the torque peak than say at full rpm.

So for the 30 degrees, it depends on where in the rpm band.

I don't think it put a load on it it was a dyno jet.

On the engine dyno my 12.5:1 408 on 110 fuel ran best at 33 degrees. This was a carbureted setup. I was surprised. started at 29 degrees and every degree added about 6hp until at 34 degrees it stayed the same or lost 1hp. With the EFI setup and motor in the car I have a feeling this may change. I will know shortly when we chassis dyno the car and tune it.
