Default P0342 and car runs like crap

I just finished up a Gen IV 6.0 swap in my 99 Trans Am. I can start the car, but it won't idle and it's spitting a P0342. I originally had the 4x timing gear in, swapped that to the 2X gear today and still having the same issue. It will spit and backfire when I try to start it and when it does start, it won't idle and has no tach still. Do I need the 12568983 cam sensor or will the 4x sensor work? I am reading that it will, but if I need to swap it I can. The car isn't tuned yet, so will the LS2 cam sensor work with the LS1 ECU or does it need tuned before I do anything else? I just want to get all the bugs worked out before I bring it to the tuner.

There's a few things you can check to see what the problem is. I'm having the exact same problem as you right now. Did you switch the outside wires in the extension or the short harness for the cam sensor? Most people purchase the extension, which says it swaps the outside wires but they still need to be swapped to get the wiring correct. If you've done that I would suggest following the advice in this thread.

What are you doing about the 58x crank reluctor? That will determine what you need to do about the cam reluctor.

I haven't swapped the wiring as I thought the racetronics pigtail did that. I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks.

Crank reluctor was swapped to a 24 tooth.
