when to do first tune

when to do first tune I will be in the market for a LS1 ws6 soon and will most likely be trying to pick a stock one up.
My plans for the car is full bolt ons the first year.
My questions is how much modding can the stock PCM handle safely? Can I go full bolt ons without a tune and drive just fine?
Or is there a certain part like a throttle body where I would want to get a tune immediately to make sure the car runs right?

Safety is not the real issue, it's power and fuel economy.
