how to verify timing via timing light? HELP
I have done this many times to check for a slipped balancer.
And any motor I build I install some type of marker just for reference.
As far as putting the ECU into a fixed timing mode Im not sure.
This is easy to do with a MegaSquirt, with HPTuner you may need to create a flat timing table (at 10°) and disable any timing related idle control.
In the end you have no way of adjusting the timing other than the commanded value.
To have a mark and pointer for the timing you need to find the TDC with a mechanical stop, mark it to the damper and install a pointer. That mark would be 0
However the engine will struggle to run at 0 deg of advance, it can be done but I think it would be better to have a damper with degree marks, command like 20 deg in the scanner and check with the light, the engine will run smoother and the reading will be more accurate.
