Emissions
So I bought this Camaro as a project car and need to pass emissions to have it so I can drive it in the street. The problem is I have a service engine light on, which is for the emissions. (If you want the error code I can do another test to give you the code). I did the smoke test at this shop and they are telling me the smoke isn't getting through but all the lines are extremely good. They said I need to drop the fuel tank for $700 and check to see if the lines are pinched or not. The did this without checking the evap vent valve and are trying to charge me for the most expensive thing they can charge me for. They charged me $98 for this to be done and they still couldn't tell me what's wrong with it. My Older brother who's a mechanic thinks it's the evap vent valve. He says I should do that and replace the piping to and from the evap vent valve. Does anyone have any ideas, the tank drop is $700 and the evap vent release is about $35? If anyone else had this problem could you help me! It's a 2000 Camaro V6. Thanks, Max

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be giving $700 to a shop to fix something without being 100% sure that is what they should be fixing.
Scan it at a local parts store for free, post the codes here.

P0442 looks to be the evaporative emission system leak detected (small leak)
Do you have HP Tuners for the car or do they even have HP tuners for the V6 cars? If so, you should be able to uncheck the SES light and select the No Error Reported.
But this doesn't fix the problem.
