Default First tune time for fun

I m doing a lq4 swap into a nova. Just thinking about the 1st tune. I plan on droping in the motor and driveing it around for a few months. So the motor will be a high mileage stock motor. Till I get everything working with all the kinks worked out. Then it will be taken back apart and built. So my question is what to do about the tuneing. I plan on buying tuneing software but when should I do it. Should I just send my ecm out and have it tuned ( stock tune with deleats ) or should I buy the tuneing software now and tune it myself. Is a basic tune hard to do? Can I just copy a tune from someone and past it into mine? Not sure how this all works.

So send out for tune,
Buy tuneing software and do it my self

I am just thinking about truble shooting anything with first start up.

Thanks for your thoughts.

The sooner you buy the tuning software the longer you have to start learning how to use it. Its nothing your going to buy today and then go tune your swap tomorrow, it will take a little time to learn the software and what to do. Its not hard just takes time. We sell package deals with tuning software and email tunes so you could go that route and save some time to get your swap going.

Several good books on tuning and explaining the theory behind it are available by Greg Banish on Amazon.
He also has a DVD under the name "Calibrated Success".

Also "Master EFI Tuner GM EFI" by Dan Maslic.

For any serious tuning, especially for a hotter cam, I highly suggest installing a wideband O2 sensor. This is best considered when updating the exhaust system so that another O2 bung can be welded in.
