tuning on my own... good idea?

tuning on my own... good idea? im going to be putting in my g5x3 camshaft and such on my own in the comming weeks, how hard would this be to tune myself or should i trailer it to a place to get it tuned.. im thinking that its going to be cheaper to take it somewhere but i'd rather learn how to do it. Price for a tune is usually about 550 or so, and then the software for self tuning is about 500 plus a laptop... whats your thoughts on this?
