Default Vats issue

Having a random no start issue. It first started with the security light coming on during driving . Light would come
On , stay on then go off. Randomly
The car would have a no start issue . Would attempt a start , security light would stay on and no start. Wait few mintues and car would
Start. I attributed to the vats system, sent pcm
Out to have the vats turned off. Got pcm
Back and still
Having same issues. Tuner says vats we're
Turned off and if it wasn't the car wouldn't run. They checked the file so they say to verify it was turned off. What could be going on?

Turning off VATS in the PCM just disables the fuel shut off part of VATS. The starter enable and security light is controlled by the BCM. And that is just guessing this is on a 98 Z28 since you weren't specific.

Yes this is on the 98. Was there anything specific with 98's? What is the next course of action? Replace the lock cylinder? Or is there something else that can be done or bypassed?now that think about it when I was having the no start after the vats where disabled I don't think I heard the fuel pump prime. Not 100%

These were written for the LT1 F-bodies but they apply to the LS1 F-bodies too.

Has anyone actually tried using the chip from a spare key
as a resistor rather then reaching the resistant value with resistors.

No because buying a real resistor to do it the easy way might cost 99 cents at Radio Shack.

Unfortunately there are no more radio shacks by me and I have 4 keys. I ordered some resistors from amazon and technically
This is not the real fix for the problem, that would be a new lock cylinder. But in hotrodder form we create are own fixes.

That "chip" in the key is nothing but a resistor. Yes you can cut it out of the key, solder some wires to it and then splice it in. It will work just fine. I had to do this to my buddy's car once.
