Default Reduce timing to tune VE table?

I知 having a hell of a time trying to tune my turbo LQ4 on the street, I can only go WOT for a couple of seconds because of the power output and the conditions of where I知 tuning..

could I drop the timing down to reduce the power to dial in my VE table??

Reduce the timing to a safe level but not too much or you will cause hesitation or misfires which will skew your VE.
I normally tune VE first with timing dialed back to a very safe level. Once fuel is dialed the PCM will see the correct g/sec and reference the final timing cells on the high octane table. Then you adjust timing to those cells to the correct value.
Then do a few final WOT passes to recheck VE and fine tune if needed.

To tune VE, a long pull in 3rd is enough for each adjustment.
