Any issues? New motor old PCM

Default Any issues? New motor old PCM

I'm swapping my 250k+ mi 5.3 out of my truck, My dad's got an LM7 out of an '06 Avalanche with less than 100k on it. Would I have any issues running this motor with my 4896 PCM? Would I need to swap all of the sensors and could, etc. over to the new motor? Or how would it work, (if possible)? Would My 4896 PCM have to be unlocked for any VIN? This is my first time doing this so any help is appreciated!

if the motor coming out is a 00 5.3 and the new one is an 06 then no your going to have to deal with converting from a 58 (new engine) to a 24 (old engine/ current pcm) reluctor.

or you can use this. Might I suggest swapping the cam as well since the LM7 had the weakest cam ever put in an LS.

I was under the impression the gen 3-4 switch was in '07? I do have heads, cam, and intake ready to go on/in

the switch was in 05 to my knowledge

No 06 was a transition yr. Thats why some tbss ls2 in 06 are 24 tooth. In 07 everything was 58.

Just look at the crank sensor color. If its black its a 24. Grey is 58. Your ecm shouldnt have any issues running it. The knock sensors may be on the side of the block tho. If it is thin u can buy a converion harness. Also limgenfelter sells a 58 to 24 conversion box. So it can be done either way if u want.

It's an LM7 so it's gen 3 for sure. I couldn't think of a reason why my PCM wouldn't run the "new" motor considering they are pretty much the same besides EGR. I had recalled coming across a bunch of information about certain PCM's only working with certain years and VINs, just didn't know if the had to do with the year of the motor or the rest of the vehicle.

sorry about that. I thought for sure the LS2's were all 58.

You shouldn't have any huge issues as long as they are both 24 and the knock sensor plugs are the same.
