A little bit of KR
Hey everyone, just got my car running after refreshing the bottom end and a h/c/I swap along with a trans swap (t56->4l60e). I'm trying to get the motor broken in before going to the dyno tune and I seem to be getting between 1.5 and 4.5 degrees of KR at around 4000rpm and maybe 1/3 throttle. Setup is stock refreshed short block, 228/232@112 .551 crane cam, PRC 2.5 243 heads unmilled, .040 cometic head gaskets, fast 92, 1 3/4 longtubes, 85mm maf, tr6 plugs, gtp injectors and a racetronics fuel pump with hot wire kit. I got a mail order tune from lsx power tuning for the start up and break in and other than dying at idle the car seems to work great.
As of now the car has about 180 miles on the new setup the first 130 I had a mix of half 100 octane and half 91<highest available> and I don't think I ever saw any knock. But that tank was at about 1/4 So I filled up with just 91 and these last 50 miles or so is when the knock started.
bad gas? Wrong plugs? Just needs a tune?
btw car has poly engine/trans/torque arm mounts and im using a scan gauge ll to watch the car.

You may need to adjust your TB to get your IAC counts in the 30-60 range, that will help with idle. 98's have pretty sensitive knock sensors, and have alot of timing stock. We actually decrease the timing of stock on 98's. More than likely the knock sensor sensitivity just needs adjusting but once the tune is dialed in perfect in person the KR may go away. Give us a call Monday and we can give you a few things to check.

Sounds like you have a tuner that is willing to do more than just take your money. If they get your issues sorted, post results. This really helps the good vendors, and helps to get rid of the bad ones.
