maf issue

I had a problem develop recently with I believe the maf sensor. It happens somewhat randomly at startup. It idles but very lean and won't add fuel with any pedal. If i unplug the maf and start it up it will idle and if i plug the maf back in during idle it will pick back up and run fine. I'm not even sure what to search for at this point.

Is it throwing any codes? Check engine light illuminated?

Try to clean the maf.
