Hp tuners obd? Hi! So I have an ls swapped truck. Gonna cam it and wanna have it tuned with hp tuners. Is it plugged in at the obd port and need to be plugged in at all times? But if the hp tuner need the obd I simply just have to connect the Dakota digital like you usually do.

You don't absolutely need the BIM module for your Dakota Digital gauges. The DD gauges will trigger an OBD II Check Engine Light on the face of a DD gauge. This will let you know to hook up a standard OBD II code reader and read whatever codes are in effect. This is my mode of operation. You have to understand that not every LS engine and trans will support every feature in that BIM module.
HP Tuners is used to adapt your Powertrain Control Module to your trans, engine and vehicle - HP Tuners changes the internal computer program within the PCM. Once that is complete, you have no additional need to own HP Tuners. It is not plugged into the OBD II port - at least mine was not. I detached my PCM from its red and blue connectors and gave it to my local HP Tuners expert. Within one day, he made all changes required inside my PCM for my LS-equipped El Camino and gave it back to me. I was then $150 poorer - $100 for two HP Tuners credits to license the new operating system inside my PCM and $50 for his time, effort and skill.
