New here and question about CA laws...
Equipment wise, keep it looking stock on the outside, and the cam tame enough to not throw any codes. Obviously long tube headers are out, and converters better be there in the stock location.
Nobody will know (or need to...) if your heads are ported or you are running different rocker arms or lifters.
Besides the visual, all they really do now is plug into the OBD2 and check for codes. Hence not wanting to show any.

Will a AFM/DOD delete make it fail smog?
For older cars, it seems to me that for some of these cars, they have the last cal id/checsum/cvn that they read during 2015/2016, and *may* compare against it.
