I went into control panel, installed updates, and removed the two latest windows updates. There was also about 12 other security updates and adobe updates, but I only removed the two that said windows updates. Restarted computer---didn't change the 3D glob on the chart. My computer is slow as christmas and I am wondering if I should remove the security updates also ? Thanks

 

Actually it was the security update.

I set my wireless to a “metered” connection. Microsoft will then not install updates until you ok it.

Geeks! Actually, it happened immediately after a windows update. So I went to the hpt forums and sure enough, wasn’t alone. Those guys figured it out.

I did my own research on the metered connection stuff.

 

I use an old Windows 7 Dell laptop dedicated for HP Tuners only, also MPVI-1 running the 4.8.7 software. I shut off windows automatic updates years ago mainly because I was afraid of bricking my PCM if by slim chance windows tried to update while I was flashing a tune. It wouldn't surprise me in a few years we'll have to use underground black market software for tuning when the EPA guts HP Tuners and EFI Live into compliance.

 

I recently updated hptuners and now my mpvi wont work. Hptuners support is saying I'm out of luck and will have to send in my mpvi to upgrade to an mpvi2. The device works for scanning but will no longer read or flash a vehicle, its giving me a license error. I think something in the software locked up my mpvi.

How can i unlock my mpvi again? i feel like hptuners is forcing me to spend hundreds to "upgrade" to an mpvi2 when its not really necessary.

 

Try reverting to an older version of software. There's no reason your MPVI shouldn't work, I'm still using mine no problem just haven't updated lately.

 

I just went through this so far the only fix I found after hours of tinkering was to plug my mpvi1 into my cars obd2 port try to resynce your mpvi in the newest software if it won't read keep removing and inserting the obd2 serial cable in and out of the mpvi cable all while keeping it plugged into your USB on your pc once you hear you computer chime try to resync your mpvi1 . If It resyncs and works great but if you try to go to a previous version it will lock you dongle out again and you have to redo what I described.
