Default clutch position sensor on a swap vehicle?

I'll be using a 2010 e38 computer with either a Camaro or Corvette manual-trans tune(haven't decided which yet). I want the best driveability I reasonably can, which calls for mounting a clutch position sensor. The clutch sensor is a simple three-wire sensor, that pulls the output wire to ground or to 5 volts.

It looks very challenging to install a real variable clutch sensor on my pedal. I already have a clutch switch that was used for cruise control in the original vehicle. I'm proposing using that clutch switch to flip a small solid-state relay, and replicate a clutch sensor.

Has anyone done this or anything similar? Is there any reason it won't work well? The clutch sensor would be seeing an instant press/depress situation, which isn't quite ideal, but I'm pretty sure it's still a lot better than having no sensor at all.

One concern I have is with the clutch pedal relearn process. Will this throw the computer for an unsolvable loop, since it will only see two clutch states, on and off?

My 67 Camaro has an ls1 with a manual tune, 411 computer. I used a brake light switch on a custom bracket operating a relay through the starter circuit like you stated. Works great. I think you’ll be fine, like you said, better than nothing. Not sure what your e38 wants to see.

if youre going hydraulic clutch you could use a pressure sensor. you would need to do a little homework on the pressure range needed though. i put a gauge on mine because thats what i wanted to do and it maxed out the 100psi gauge really quick, so its in the many hundreds of psi.

I had briefly considered that, since it would be the cleanest solution. I did a little research on those hydraulic brake light switches, and folks were saying that they're very finicky. They foul easily, and stop working. Many folks who used them on 1950's vehicles with brake lights were swapping them out for pedal activated switches.

I did a quick estimation of the pressure in a hydraulic clutch. I come up with 300 psi. That's just estimating the pedal pressure needed, the clutch pedal leverage, and the master cylinder diameter.
