Default TSP longtubes needing tune?

Hey all. Installing TSP long tubes, 1 3/4 headers, with their ORY pipe. Currently have SLP loudmouth catback and a SLP lid. Everything else is stock.

I understand a mild tune will be ideal to optimize the set up but should it be fine running the way it is for a few weeks before I can save to have a tune done. I know a CEL will be on because of the catless mid pipe.

Even with a fairly mild cam, I always had a lot of bucking and surging at low load and rpm in my Miata ... even with the untouched GMPP crate hotcam motor. It got even worse with an ASA cam in the car. Eventually, I found that tuning the O2 sensor related stuff made a huge improvement. I now suspect that a lot of the surging I was experiencing was due to the fact that the tune wasn't correct with respect to the O2 sensor location, not the cam. The stock GMPP tune (I bought their controller) was set up for cast iron exhaust manifolds with the O2 sensors in the manifolds.

Your tolerance for this kind of driveability issue may or may not be higher than mine.

You'll be leaving a little power on the table but you shouldn't have any drivability issues. Good luck!

You'll probably end up with a CEL for heated O2 circuit low, a tune will be needed to address that as well.

I found the stock tune with header and y pipe install caused my 99 z28 to run a bit rough in the lower rpm's. I got a tune by Frost and car runs great. I decided to have the tune done on a spare PCM so I have the stock tune available should any problems arise, which have not.
